Canon DSLR EOS 450D

08.09.09

I finally got myself a new camera! Not just a camera, but a DSLR! YAY! Ashamed Smileys
OK I know I've never mentioned or displayed any affection to a bulkier and more complicated camera, but I realised that the pictures taken by my faithful companion, i.e. Canon Digital Ixus 70 do not live up anymore. This could be because the pictures I have seen recently were all much nicer clearer! Baby Smileys

Initial intention was to get it by this year end, just before Xmas so that we can have time to play around with it before we go for our Bangkok trip next year... But after the Langkawi trip, I was really into DSLR! I love the pictures taken with it! Plus, starting the Raya week, I have 3 weddings to attend until 10th Sept! So I'd thought it would be nice to start practicing on this when I have so many opportunities.

We did our research and surveys in various places. I've also asked my boss (who is also a DLSR fan) for his opinion. We were thinking of the Olympus E-620 or the Canon 1000D, but boss told me to scout around more.

On the very fine day, I went to the gym after work and Vincent went to a Canon store in Pavilion to check it out. When I finish my yoga session, he insisted that we go to the store right after I shower. It was already 8.30pm, so we had dinner there and went to the Canon store. He told me that he did his research and wanted the Canon 450D, and the salesman also recommended that. Upon arrival, the salesman has already packed everything for us! I tried the camera, and was happy with it and he specs, and we BOUGHT IT!!! Evil Grin Smileys

Check it out! My new toy - the Canon EOS 450D!

The EOS 450D features:

  • 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor
  • Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System
  • 3.5 frames per second
  • 3.0” LCD with Live View shooting
  • 9-point wide-area AF system with f/2.8 cross-type centre point
  • Picture Style image processing parameters
  • DIGIC III image processor
  • Digital Photo Professional RAW processing software1
  • Compact and Lightweight body
  • Fully compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites

The EF-S 18-55 IS Kit came together with:
  • Canon Ximplify Full Version Software
  • Canon Software for Image Editing
Other FOC stuff:
  • 8GB Memory Card (Top up of RM100 for an upgrade to from 4GB to 8GB)
  • Camera bag
  • Screen Protector
  • Tripod
Although we are beginners in this area, Vincent couldn't help but buying another lens, which is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II for another purpose: Macro photo-capturing/Portrait photo-capturing (I seriously have no idea what is the main purpose of the lens). This lens will take sharper images of your focus person/item and will blur out the background or the rest. Your choice.

Total amount spent: RM3429! Surprise smiley face

To make this all worth it, we must practice using this camera and play around with the different settings and functions... which no doubt, Vincent will be in-charge of this since he was more excited at this than me! Winks smiley face

Hi,

I also own 450D and 50mm f1.8 II len.

Recommend another good len that I bought earlier...85mm f1.8 ultrasonic (fast and quiet) metal mount, tougher.

Personally compared pictures taken from both lens, the latter is better in term of colour saturation, sharper image, not so hungry for light, better bokeh....but it needs some distances (since it is 85mm)

Hi,

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for the tip. Will look into it. Am planning to get a flash for my 450D first. When I do, I'll look into your recommended flash =)

Hey,

I did some research on the lens that you recommended. It does received a high level of recommendation from other reviews. LOL the list of lenses to purchase just grew longer! =)

You also bought a place in Zen?! OMG we are neighbors! Ours is in Block A. What a small world :) It's nice to meet you, neighbor!

Hi Michelle,

Yup, it is definitely a small world, in some cases LOL.

I used 85mm to take a few pictures of my daughter, turned out every single strand of her eye brow can be seen clearly, I considered it to be a 'must have' len.

Anyway for the Zen, we already signed the S&P and got loan approved from bank, so now it is just waiting for the developer to keep up their promised delivery date, cheers :-)

My fiance and I joined the Facebook for Zen. Are you in the group as well? They have frequent updates and discussions on Zen. It is a great place to share everything with the our future neighbors.

I have a question - Would the 85mm be able to take landscape pictures?

Hi Michelle,

Me again, yes 85 MM can take good landscape picture.

One advise, for picture under bright sun and lots of reflection, it is good to add a circular polarizer len(just to filter reflections, increase picture clarity, contrast...and also serve as a protection to len, from scratches or impact)

My wife already join Zen blog under facebook, yeah lots of info there, your block is coming up....Cheers !

Gonna save $$ for new home :-)
